so I installed Ubuntu's 7.10 release, codenamed "Gutsy Gibbon"..awesome look and feel! can play ogg files but no mp3..it kept asking for the "GStream extra plugins"
here's where I found the packages..
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/sound/
first find out which architecture you are using-amd64, i386 or powerpc..
download the appropriate package and install them using Synaptic or another package manager..
that should get your mp3s to play..will confirm it tomorrow.. :)
